Eco Friendly Wedding Planning in France & Design
"You don’t have to sacrifice style for the sake and making your elopement, wedding or private event eco friendly. I am here to help you navigate the world of green wedding planning and production."
Fiona - Founder and Creative Director
Our Mission: Sustainable Weddings & Events
In the last decade, "going green" has evolved beyond simply recycling bottles and avoiding plastic. Eco-friendly wedding practices are now accessible to all couples who are committed to making mindful choices that contribute to a healthier planet. It’s no longer a niche, but a growing movement for couples ready to make a lasting difference in how they celebrate their love.
At Héra et Lutèce, our leitmotiv is to craft sustainable weddings and events that leave a positive impact on the world.
An eco-friendly wedding means carefully considering the environmental footprint of every aspect—planning, services, suppliers, and even the companies they represent.
A Sustainable Wedding for a Better Future
Your wedding is one of the most unforgettable days of your life, but did you know it can also be one of the most wasteful? Sustainability in wedding planning isn’t just for eco-conscious couples — adopting an eco-friendly mindset can simplify your planning, save costs, and elevate the feel-good factor of your celebration.
For the fourth consecutive year, I’ve refined and implemented my eco-friendly event label in the planning stages of each wedding I create. It’s now an intrinsic part of my process, guiding every decision to minimize environmental impact.
My label is based on the ISO 20121 Standard for an Eco-Friendly event, ensuring every aspect of your celebration is thoughtfully designed to be sustainable, from the vendors to the decor, to the very waste it creates.

Be thoughtful about your planning process
- Minimize emails and attachments by using shared documents or planning tools (e.g. Google Docs or wedding planning platforms).
- Go digital: send your invitations via email, and if paper is needed, opt for recycled materials.
- Reduce the number of physical meetings and opt for video calls to save time and reduce the carbon footprint.
- Organize your planning in a centralized digital space (e.g., wedding website or project management tools) to avoid unnecessary printing.
- After the wedding, help reduce the digital clutter by cleaning up email inboxes and deleting outdated documents.
Raise awareness among the suppliers.
- Encourage suppliers to minimize packaging and use reusable materials whenever possible.
- Choose suppliers that implement waste reduction practices, such as florists who use organic blooms or sustainably sourced materials.
- Rent or repurpose items from previous events (decor, linens, etc.) to avoid buying new and minimize waste.
- Work with eco-conscious suppliers who use local or seasonal flowers to reduce carbon emissions from transportation.
- Opt for biodegradable or reusable decor (e.g., fabric tablecloths instead of paper napkins) and repurpose decor throughout the day.

Choose caterers who support local farmers
- Select a caterer who works with local farmers and offers seasonal, organic food options.
- Opt for a farm-to-table experience that supports sustainable farming practices and reduces food miles.
- Minimize food waste by choosing a caterer who plans portion sizes based on the number of guests and recycles leftover food.
- Avoid single-use plastic or disposable cutlery and plates; choose compostable or reusable options.
- Include vegetarian or plant-based menu options, which tend to have a lower environmental impact.

Create an eco friendly registry
- Encourage guests to contribute to your honeymoon fund or donate to your favorite charity in lieu of traditional gifts.
- Suggest eco-friendly gifts, such as experiences, donations to environmental causes, or reusable household items.
- Have guests contribute to a communal wedding gift, such as contributing to a tree planting or local environmental initiative.
- Ask for practical gifts that will last, such as sustainable home goods, and avoid disposable items.
- Consider integrating wedding favors that guests will actually use, such as reusable water bottles, tote bags, or sustainable candles.
Challenge yourself to a zero waste treatment after the event
- Work with a local organization to donate or recycle unused decorations, flowers, and food from the event.
- Encourage guests to carpool or use shared transportation to reduce carbon emissions on the day of the wedding.
- Instead of balloons, use fabric bunting or banners that can be reused at future events.
- If you're using candles, choose soy or beeswax, which are much more eco-friendly than paraffin candles.
- After the event, ensure any leftover floral arrangements are composted or donated to local hospitals or nursing homes.
